Autumn 2019

2nd September 2019

September

Welcome back Grazeley - we hope you had a great summer. In this New Year, we have welcomed lots of new children and staff, who have settled in great.

Also new, we have installed a new sound system over the summer holidays for assemblies and other fun activities in the hall.

From Chestnut class learning the basics at school, to Oak class preparing for school, everyone is taking on a lot more responsibility. We have Hazel class working hard on trickier maths and Birch class have now just moved into the upper part of the school.

We have also purchased some new full-sized iPads that will be arriving in November 2019 that we look forward to using.

October and November

It is only October and the new foundation children have settled into Chestnut Class very well. Our old year sixes have left and we hope that they are having a good time at their new schools.

The current Year 6 have already gone on their residential trip to Osmington Bay where they did many exciting activities such as giant swing, zipwire, raft building and many more. Year 6 have also taken part in an activity day and service in Dorchester Abbey, with the theme “Quests and Questions”.

Recently, our football team took part in a football match against Westende Junior school, where they drew 3-3. Most of these players and some others will be participating in more matches and tournaments throughout the rest of November and some in December.

We look forward to our Christmas activities next month, including our Christmas Fair on the Saturday 7th December.

December

In December, Grazeley School went on a trip to watch Aladdin, the pantomime, at the Wilde theatre. Everyone thoroughly enjoyed this trip and are looking forward for more.
Also in December, we had our school carol concert, which was held in the playground, where some of the children from year 6 and 5 enjoyed singing in groups and solos and some of our older students attended the Wokingham Schools Carol Concert, where they learnt all the words and performed them brilliantly. At the end of last year, we also watched reception, year 1 and year 2 perform their play. They did a great job acting their show, ‘Born in a Barn’.

We also enjoyed our Christmas fair, where we had lots of fun and lots of games and activities and raised lots of money for the school.
On the 12th December, just like the whole country, Grazeley held a school general election, run by the year sixes. They were divided into groups and formed a plan of what they would change or improve about the school. As there was no overall majority, two parties formed a coalition to lead and won some money to spend on the school.
